CLASS ETHICS
A few things you should know to enhance your learning and practice.
-
Remove shoes at the door, we practice in our bare feet.
-
Never bring your phone into the studio, leave it in your car / or bag.
-
Come to practice with an empty stomach (unless a specified condition prevents this.)
-
We do not normally allow water bottles in class. If needed keep them off the floor and to the side of the room where they won't be in the way of anyone's practice.
-
Be early to class if it is a Led Class. Unfortunately no late comers will be allowed.
-
Bring your own man, it's more hygienic
-
Wear comfortable excercise clothing.
-
Pls ask questions about anything that is not clear to you. We are here to help u in any way we can, so don't hesitate.
-
Refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or strong essential oils.
-
If you have a health issue (illness, injury, or medical condition), please notify your instructor before class. Not every pose is appropriate for everyone.
-
Let go of the competitive mind-set pls. Yoga is noncompetitive. It is not just a workout, it is not just techniques for relaxation, and it is not just cross-training. It is a spiritual practice that makes the body stronger, more flexible, and generally much healthier. Th purpose is to calm the mind, open the heart, and stimulate our spiritual evolution.
-
Be kind and loving to yourself by accepting where you are in the practice. It is okay to come out of a pose before the teacher says to (eg. in a Led Class), and it is totally okay to speak up if a posture doesn't feel good, or causes some pain or even sensation you are unsure about (eg. in self-practice.) Yoga is not an approach of 'no pain/no gain'. To the contrary, the body will respond beautifully when you show it kindness, acceptance, and love. Rest sometimes if need be by taking a few extra breaths. Stop your practice earlier than your set final posture if need be!
-
No experience or flexibility is required to practice Yoga. Ashtanga Yoga is for everyone.
-
If you are feeling unwell, it is not a problem, just please tell the teacher before you leave.
-
Finally, as you progress in your practice you will learn the opening and closing prayers, but for the beginners we invite you to at least end the class with a gesture and saying Namaste. This means: I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you in which is love, of truth, of light, and of peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, we are one :)
